Could this be Hamas‘ last gasps? The terrorist army has only a limited number of ways to fight against Israel, a country with a real army. Although Hamas has definitely used terror, murder, and rockets when it can, most missiles are coming from the Houtis in Yemen these days, not Gaza. So Hamas is left with limited options. It has a multipronged attack to vilify and isolate Israel. First, it must maximize its own civilian casualties and second, continue its largely successful propaganda war to blame Israel.
Israel can retaliate militarily but it is equally successful at destroying Hamas by choking off its income. There are real signs that Hamas is suffering.
A year ago, Israel took over the tunnels in Rafah that supplied not only arms but billions in smuggling “taxes” to the Hamas leadership.
Since Israel blocked all aid entering to Gaza two and a half months ago, its soldiers have not been paid. While some are true believers in the ranks, many are mercenaries since there are few other jobs in Gaza. How long will they hang on? Hamas certainly can threaten them with torture and murder for desertion as it does all “collaborators” but it is a sign that they are losing control. Therefore, Hamas had to up the ante by threatening those who cooperate with the American/Israeli supported Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is attempting to feed the 2 million Palestinians held hostage by Hamas.
Last week I wrote about the conflicting information regarding famine in Gaza. While it was clear that no aid had entered Gaza for 80 days it wasn’t clear how much food had been stock piled by Hamas or what food production existed within Gaza. The UN’s World Food Program refuses to cooperate with any Israeli food distribution and has failed to distribute its own stockpiles as its warehouses were overrun by hungry civilians. Many pictures show dozens of strong young men carrying 25kg (55 lbs) bags of flour as they leave. Although none look emaciated, they would have to be hungry to risk a stampede and being shot at by Hamas.
The same cannot be said for Osama Hamdan. Easy for him to say he would prefer to starve than accept Israeli rations, while he sits in Beirut.
Hamas continues to peddle misinformation to credulous Western journalists. A couple stories stood out this week. First Tom Fletcher from the UN falsely stated that 14,000 babies would die of starvation within the next 48 hours. Imagining that his statement is an honest mistake strains credulity, since he admits in the BBC interview to choosinghis words carefully. He entirely misinterpreted a statement that 14,000 could suffer acute malnutrition if the ban on humanitarian aid continued for another year. The UN reliably parrots Hamas talking points and the BBC gives them a platform.
Second, a devastating tragedy was reported about a doctor, Alaa al Najjar, a paediatrician at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis. She was reported to have lost nine of her 10 children, incinerated in an Israeli airstrike. On CBC, the father of the children, also a doctor was stated to have been at home while on CNN it was perhaps mistakenly reported that 10 children under the age of 12 were home alone and their father returned just in time to see the strike and be severely injured himself.
Our media has often been fooled by doctors before. Remember the case of the Naim family, with many prominent doctors who were Hamas operatives. The media often quoted Fadel Naim and his colleagues at Al Ahli Hospital, who accused Israel of targeting civilians.
Who could forget the doctor who held three Israeli hostages in his apartment or the MSF healthcare worker by day, bomb maker by night? I have read reports that the Al Najjar family is a prominent Gazan family with close ties to Hamas, but was unable to find any evidence. The easily discoverable evidence that makes the story suspect, was that the Nasser Medical Complex was closed on May 5, 2025 due to an Israeli siege. Had it reopened? If so, who would be allowed by Hamas into a Hamas stronghold?
Khan Younis had been evacuated of all civilians a week earlier by the IDF. Why were 10 children still in a war zone? The story is so undeniably tragic that it makes itdifficult to question any of the details. A sceptic ends up looking heartless and cruel. But details need to be important to journalists and editors. CNN reports that she is a 37 year-old pediatrician. Pregnant every year and still able to complete subspecialty training? The children were described as burnt beyond recognition, but pictures on X show unmarred angelic faces. The doctor never appearsin any photo with her deceased children. The picture of their father in the ICU is mislabeled. It was a niece visiting, not his wife. CBC has blacked out part of the photos that resulted in the most criticism.
Hillel Fuld says the whole thing is a lie. Sherri Oz says the photos are fake, but the story is sadly true. It’s easy for me to be critical when I face no deadlines or pressure to report immediate news, but surely some fact checkers are falling down on the job.
Thirdly, Hamas must be crowing about the delegitimizationof the GHF attempting to feed Palestinians. The head, Jake Wood, resigned claiming he feared he was being used by Israel to force a mass migration of Palestinians. How did he not realize earlier, when Israel had been very open, that they intended to clear and hold large sections of Gaza to rid it of Hamas. All the NGOs in Gaza are attempting to discredit GHF. If money flows to GHF instead of them, they are in trouble. If Hamas can no longer divert food and sell it at exorbitant prices to fund their war, they are also in trouble.
Western media does not realize how Hamas has infiltrated NGOs active in Gaza. These offices are staffed by Hamas operatives. It is in their interest to foil any effort to limit civilian casualties. Hamas is the one who shot at civilians who broke into the warehouse. Hamas created roadblocks, preventing civilians from accessing food.
NGO monitor released a report on May 25, 2025 about the UK government giving cash to Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, another terrorist organization. The money was distributed via aid organizations. NGO‘s were used to launder money and supply cash for terrorist endeavors, including October 7, and prolonging this war. NGO Monitor uncovered documents when following the trail from USAID to Hamas. The UK was aware of the risk of money laundering and diversion yet chose to go ahead with these assistance programs with “trusted partners.” UNICEF was one of the partners working in conjunction with the Hamas Ministry of Social Development. The UK has given £100,000,000 to the West Bank and Gaza, since October 7. The UK report identified it as a “reputational risk” but shockingly not as a security or legal risk. They were not concerned about financing terror.
The Norwegian Refugee Council also financed by the UK worked closely with the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD), again giving cash donations. The MoSD was headed by Ghazi Hamad, the Hamas leader who oversawweapons smuggling. On October 24, 23 on Lebanese TV, he answered “of course” to the interviewer when asked if he seeks the annihilation of Israel. He volunteered “the Al Aqsa flood is just the first thing, and there will be a second, a third, a fourth on October 7, October 10, October 1,000,000. Everything we do is justified.”
I wonder where the $100,000,000 yhat Mark Carney pledged to Gaza ended up. Was there any better oversight? When humanitarian relief organizations are complicit with Hamas, I suspect our tax dollars will be misused. When Mark Carney accused Israel of using food as a weapon, he should have blamed Hamas.
Hamas has a clear modus operandi. It breaks every humanitarian law of conflict and then uses propaganda to have the West condemn Israel. It operates out of hospitals, civilian areas, schools and mosques, turning them into legitimate targets. Then Israel is blamed. Hamas uses food to control the population and finance terror and Israel gets blamed for hurting civilians by not contributing to the terrorist’s war effort. It particularly values children as soldiers and human shields since age old blood libels are resurrected. Hamas has displayed unimaginable cruelty to their own people in an effort to destroy the only Jewish state. Yet even with their unfair playbook they might be losing, if we trust the images of gratitude toward the USA and disgust for Hamas. We can hope Hamas is losing control as its funds are cut off. If only our governments don’t rescue Hamas.
It looks like Mr. Hamdan has eschewed the carrot and stick approach for the knife and fork approach to diplomacy.
This government is the most Israel hating in history.. we must just follow the money and see how much it’s getting from Qatar to undermine our values…it’s an insult to all those that died for our freedom in past wars…
